Acupuncture FAQ

Is it painful?
For most patients, it’s common to feel nothing more than a slight pinch from Acupuncture needles. You don’t need to worry about pain from Acupuncture needles during your appointment.
Can I get an infection?
There is no risk of infection during an Acupuncture session. The needles for each patient are new, sterile and disposable. Needles are never reused on a different patient.
Where are the needles placed?
It depends on the condition being treated. The needles are gently inserted into specific points on your body called acupoints. Common acupoints are on the arms, legs, lower back or stomach area.
How often do I need treatment?
Weekly Acupuncture treatments are typical for many patients. Two treatments a week for acute pain, chronic pain or other serious conditions is common. During your first appointment we’ll discuss a plan that is best for your specific needs.
Is there anything I need to do before my appointment?
Avoid anything that might cause stress so you are calm during your Acupuncture session. We recommend avoiding caffeine and smoking before your appointment. It’s best to wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes so you can relax and it will be easy to place needles as needed.
